MOORESVILLE, N.C. - Darin Mock and the No. 51 AAN Adjusters Ford Mustang team overcame some early diversity to rally back for a commendable ninth-place finish in the TA2 Series race at Sebring International Raceway. This was the first outing for Mock with his new team, Nitro Motorsports.
After missing the first practice with electrical issues, the Nitro team went to work and rectified the problems. For the second practice, Mock was 8th fastest on the speed chart and followed that up by qualifying 11th.
When the green flag dropped, Mock settled in biding his time with a goal of remaining on track, and in the top-10 running position. Multiple cautions slowed the pace of the race, but Mock kept his goals in mind as the laps unfolded.
Ending under caution for a late-race wreck, he had a solid run bringing his Mustang across the line in 9th place.
“I can’t thank Nick Tucker, crew chief Ron Otto and all the Nitro guys enough for the fast car,” Mock said. “Once we hit the track for that second practice, I knew we were going to be good at Sebring.
“The race was tough with so many competitors going for their own real estate on some laps. You could definitely tell it was the first race of the year for everyone.
“In the end, we just kept the car in one piece and on the track as the cautions kept waving for others. Like they say, you have to be there at the end. I’m definitely looking forward to our next race with everyone at Nitro.”
The re-broadcast of the Sebring race will air on MAVTV this Thursday, March 2, at 8 pm ET. The Big Machine Spiked Coolers TA2 Series returns to action March 9 to 12 at NOLA Motorsports Park, just outside of New Orleans.
