HUNTERSVILLE, NC – After a month between events, Darin Mock is feeling good about racing at Virginia International Raceway this weekend in the TA2 Class.
This will be his second race on the tricky road course of VIR in his No. 51 AAN Adjusters No. 51 Ford Mustang. This is also the first track Mock competed on in his early racing days, which means he has a certain comfort level this time around.
“VIR is a track I have a lot familiarity with and have logged many laps there already,” Darin Mock said. “With this being my second TA2 TransAm Series race there, I feel pretty confident about what needs to be for a good run."
“The track is really fast and the elevation changes around the course are
exciting, but challenging. It’s a very nice facility, the racing is great and
there are a lot of places for passing."
“One area of the track that can make or break your race are the Esses. You’re going uphill into those turns and you can pretty much go wide open in a qualifying run. During the race, if you hit that area wrong, you end up off the track in the grass.”
“But, if you hit your marks just right you can pretty much hammer down to get through there. I guess we’ll see this weekend.”
With VIR located two hours from the Charlotte, NC area and just over the NC/VA border north of Milton, NC, the Mike Cope Racing Team driver will have plenty of support on hand.
“Quite a few of my friends and family are making there way to VIR to see the race,” Mock said. “It’s always a good feeling knowing you so much support during the race weekend. It helps quite a bit, actually."
“This is our second-to-last race on the 2022 TransAm schedule and I’m looking to having a good run, stay clean and earn a top-10 finish. A finish better than that would be great, trust me."
